So it was with some interest that I took a look at Wrise (US$29.99 introductory pricing at the Mac app store), which certainly provides a fresh take on word processing.Writer. There just aren't too many new OS X word processing applications appearing these days, with Microsoft Word and Apple's Pages ruling the roost. Like its Office 2004 predecessor, Office 2008 for the Mac comes with four main programs: Word for word processing Excel for spreadsheets. Also textedit is an amazing program that works well w/ word and comes free with your mac.Mac. Another good choice is the iWork suite which I use all the time. As far as solutions that come with the MacBook, OSX's TextEdit application is a decent word processor that will let you open and edit Microsoft Word files.Try to be all things to all people. MS Word, LibreOffice, etc. Writer is a decent open-source word processor that, for the most part, has been replaced by other options.Bean is a small, easy-to-use word processor, designed to make writing convenient, efficient and comfortable. It’s still around, and it’s still free. Before Google Docs, the leading free competitor to Word was LibreOffice’s Writer.
